This Cantonese and Sichuan eatery draws in the high-end local crowd with its excellent dim sum and banqueting facilities. The dark antiques and sophisticated atmosphere are designed to impress, but it's the shrimp dumplings and durian puffs that will bring you back for more.

Rocked the new tea-infused seasonal food menu this afternoon for lunch. The prawns with Longjing tea not only were super tasty but had an interesting presentation with a cup of tea upside down on the plate. The crispy pork belly was off the hook good, salty and delicious. The highlight though was the dessert--mini deep friend zongzi with an assortment of dipping sauces. Never had anything quite like it! The hotel is under renovation so things are a bit chaotic at the moment, but Horizon is still serving up some fine Canto cuisine.

We went this sunday for the all-you-can-eat and was actually impressed. Good food, not the best in Beijing but definitely on the higher end for dimsum.
However, that was all undermined by a terrible, terrible experience with the waiters. We had walked in and told them we were here for the all you can eat...we were seated and asked what we wanted to drink. When it came time for the bill, both of us completely surprised to see a bill of 430 RMB. How on earth did it get that high? Turns out the glasses of orange juice they offered us were 50 RMB each.
We protested that we were never told that drinks were not part of the buffet (the fact that they didn't have a menu of any sort didn't help). If the drinks were 10 or 15 kuai, would have let it go, but 50? That's fine if you want your pricing model to be that way, but you owe it to tell your customers that in good faith...there's no way we would have ordered any drinks if we knew we were going to be charged that kind of money for it.
We ended up arguing with the waitress for 15 minutes about this very point. What would have been a 4 or 5 star review was absolutely ruined. I will not be back here ever again...the way they chose to handle this whole situation has ensured that.

We just enjoyed a lovely dim sum brunch at The Horizon. Our table of 5 arrived before noon to get an extra 15% off of our bill, which made the brunch an even better deal than the regularly priced RMB99. This is definitely the best deal on dim sum in town. We enjoyed the hargao, chengfen (both with BBQ pork and beef), steamed BBQ pork buns, steamed ribs, chive and shrimp crystal dumplings, beef zhou, BBQ pork in pastry, fried beef noodles, shrimp in tofu skin and the egg tarts. The chive and shrimp dumplings, hargao, shrimp in tofu and egg tarts were table favorites. The dumplings and hargao were served piping hot and the shrimp retained a popping crunch that gave both dumplings a savory mouth feel. The egg tarts are out of this world--a nice rich cream filling with a flaky crust...yum. The steamed pork ribs and beef chengfen both were sub-par...the ribs where big fatty chunks of bone and the chengfen lacked flavor. The service was efficient and the decor is quite nice, but probably alittle stuffy for true down-and-dirty rolling cart yelling waiter cacophony that characterizes HK dim sum dens.
I think Lei Garden still has the best dimsum in town, but also the most expensive. If you want a great value, accessible dim sum experience, you can't get much better than The Horizon weekend dimsum brunch.

Just had the durian cakes (or durian rolls?) from the dim sum menu, and they were just incredible. I'm craving more already. Horizon just got a new executive chef from Hong Kong, and it seems he really knows what he's doing. I was also really impressed by how full this place was (mostly Chinese crowd, but some foreigners) even at lunch on a weekday - definitely a good sign.

Good, but minus 2 stars because a can of Coke is 35 RMB.

Lovely Dim Sum, with reasonable price and not very hotel atmosphere.
The pork bun, Durian puff is highly recommended.

Definitely one of the best dimsum in town. The weekend all you can eat dimsum deal is pretty awesome. Love their shaomai and xiajiao (hakaw). It's pretty amazing how almost all Shangri-la Hotel's Chinese resto has very good dimsum all around the world. Also don't miss their egg tart and any of their chengfen. Way quieter than Jindingxuan, better environment if you prefer not to eat your dimsum in a 24 hours hustle & bustle. They also have very good Honey BBQ Pork (cha shao).
