Located close to the city but far from its chaos, this classy European-inspired venue is an expat institution. The Orchard features a largely organic menu featuring homegrown herbs and veggies, all going into dishes both reasonably priced and rich in flavor. Be sure to bring your own transportation.

Description -
The Orchard, open since 2002, remains a green oasis amidst a massive development project that includes a new subway station, a designer outlet mall and yet another arts district. Because of The Orchard and it's sister projects, The Yin Yang Community Center and The Real Life village renovation project, nearby Hegezhuang village is spared the wrecking ball. Serving fresh food, much of it grown on the premises, The Orchard continues to provide consistently good quality, healthy Western fare at fair prices. Children's room, healthy children's buffet menu, outdoor dining by the lake, covered island for parties, seating for 200 inside. Hosts weddings, parties, media events. Boutique featuring wood, iron, silver, leather made on premises, clothing and homeware by Chinese and international designers. Consistently gives to charities and promotes sustainable projects throughout China.

A very beautiful spot. I love the garden surrounding the restaurant and the food is amazingly good every time I go. The service is nice, attentive and friendly without being too intrusive of a quiet brunch shared between friends. Quite expensive but worth it.

I have been there for the first time a few weeks ago and will come back.
The design is just as I like it, traditional but warm and comfortable, with a sense of details. Service was perfect food was delicious, I had Ravioli gorgonzola, you should try it. the walk in the garden after lunch reminds me of walks I have in Europe on a Sunday afternoon...
The price is expensive but it is one a few places in Beijing where you actually get what you pay for.
two thumbs up !

Very family-friendly. They've got plenty of high chairs and a play room for the kids. Kids have their own buffet on Sundays at a cheaper price than the adult buffet. Our kids loved it. On days with nice weather, children can explore the garden outside and run around. There is also a little nook off to the side where one can nurse and do diaper changes.

What a delightful find this place is! Completely loved this place! Went for the buffet lunch on the weekend, and was so impressed by the beauty of the place itself - the decor and furnishings, and the gorgeous grounds, and the food was AMAZING! The gourmet breads, cheeses, salads, meats, and desserts on offer were far superior to any other more pricey buffet I've been to, and this one is such a good deal at only RMB180 per person! The lunch buffet runs from 12pm-3pm on weekends, so don't go too early hoping for brunch! (They open at 11.30am)

In a perfect world everyone ought to be doing this: offering tremendously good food in a charming environment with great service on the lower side of moderate cost. You're made to feel like you're guests, instead of just customers. I was hopeful of all the CW five star reviews would lead me to a great experience, and here it was the case!
The bread with creamy sauce appetizer is through the roof good. The mixed grill made me wonder why I bother hitting up rodizio joints. Smoky, rich and delicious without being obscenely heavy, this grilled meat platter was a winner.A side of grilled veggies (eggplant, pepper, zucchini and onion) perfectly complimented the meal. The table bread, served with a roast pepper and eggplant spread was noteworthy. It was amazing.
With a bottle of good wine we got out of a fantastic meal in a charming place for rmb 380, before tip. That makes orchard the most cost effective minor splurge I can think of on sunyi. I've paid three times as much for meals that were no better than what they're serving here.
This is a new favorite of mine, and my husband was blown away as well. That's great, because in these times blowing her away for this kind of money is just what I like to do!

The Orchard is a small slice of the beauty, charm and warmth of rural Europe right here in Beijing.
The approach can be difficult and not always apparent. An oasis of apple trees seems like a bad joke on the hopelessly homesick amidst the dusty construction sites that line the outskirts of Beijing.
But once beyond the gates, you find yourself enveloped in a wonderfully inviting canopy of apple trees far, far away from the city’s sights and sounds. Adding to the ambiance, the food is excellent (with a hint of apple in just about everything they make), the service is great, and the prices, while not cheap, are comparable to Beijing’s other finer establishments.
You pretty much can’t go wrong—the perfect place to while away a lazy Sunday afternoon.

I really, really, really enjoyed this place. Yes, its a bit out there, but that just adds to the charm. The restaurant is open, warm, has a very creative menu that seemed to deliver on all dishes. One bit of warning, the bread they serve at the table is absolutely addictive and will leave your stomach a little fuller than you'd like.
I was absolutely floored by the quality of the service - definitely well above the Beijing standard and was a nice change. Also, the band that played, acoustic 3 member, was fantastic.
If I could only pick this place up and put it right next door to my building. All around fantastic and I will be back over and over.

Was at The Orchard for Sunday brunch a couple of weeks ago and must say it's a very nice place. You can sit and eat for hours and just relax. The price for the brunch is 180 RMB and can seem a little bit pricey but well worth the money. I will come back.

They have a great shop which sells handmade soaps, homemade chutneys and jams, dried herbs (echinacea, mint, sage, basil, chamomile flowers, etc). Plus, home furnishings and handbags & handmade jewelery and fine clothing items. They also carry the fabulous (bilingual) Special Olympics fundraiser cookbook, as well as several hard-to-find books about Beijing which are appropriate for gifts.

If you got a chance to Shunyi or Miyun for a trip, this place is optimal choice for dining. The food is very fresh, delicious and and served in a very generous helping. We two people ordered a 'baked eggplant with goat's cheese' and a 'half chicken with potatoes and asparagus'. Though we were very stuffed, we still order a dessert 'cakes topping with toffee'. After stuffing all the dessert in our stoaches, we put an excellent end to our lunch.

yes its a bit hard to find this place. i went there in a big group. and i rent a van for all of us. there were 9 of us. packed inside the van :D it was a bit hard to find this place but thanks to the fuwuyuan who explained how to get here to my driver on the phone, we got there quite fast. i asked the driver to wait there for us.
we went in the restaurant and we instantly fell in love to this restaurant. the homey feeling. very cozy, very warm. it feels like someone is throwing a dinner at his/her home. we chose the tables next to glass windows looking at the garden. so nice...
the food itself are nice. not wow. but nice. just like home made. the whole dining experience left us feeling so relaxed and comfortable. after u finished ur dinner, u just wished ure in ur own house and u can just head to ur bedroom and sleep. but instead of bedroom, we headed back to the van. packed in it again and that made all of us back to reality. sigh... really want to go back there again, but i need a friend who has a car to go with me. anybody?

The Orchard has a new section: called the Yin Yang Wellness Center. I hear they are offering NIA classes, yoga and retreats.
Here is another tidbit on how to get to The Orchard: It is located 2.8km west of Jingshun Rd; look for the red lanterns next to the blue sign for Hegezhuang and turn there.

The food & service here is always very good. You feel like in someone's home for a great meal! Price is reasonable and well-worth the drive for those of us who are staying outside of Shunyi area. If you plan to go on weekends (Sat & Sun), it is advisable to make reservation.
They have a store selling organic dried herbs, sauces, chutneys, clothings, jewelry, handbags, organic soaps etc.

This place is great and very unique but a nightmare to leave if you do not come with your own transport. The only cabs they will order for you are the heiche who will definitely rip you off. Otherwise expect to hike down a long and dusty road trying to find a stray official cab.

Very easy to miss as the sign is tiny. The restaurant and grounds are beautiful. It is the perfect place to relax and unwind after the chaos of the city. The food is excellent and uses home grown herbs, veg and fruit. The atmoshere is very laid back and it very pleasant to linger in the bar with a glass of wine or two.

An Oasis away from the city This is a beautiful place. Very peaceful and full of lovely trees. Food is absolutely delicious with a great selection of wines.

An afternoon of May 2011... with my boyfriend, he He led me up to this place on his scooter. A long romantic drive in Beijing. The garden is beautiful. We were alone on the terrace, so quiet, so calm... We drank fruit juices by sharing a dessert... and enjoy the day.
Great place to find peace outside Beijing!
