This favorite with the French community boasts wonderfully authentic ambiance and homestyle food. The savory crepes are delightful, but the menu has much more to offer as well, with a blackboard of daily specials that change on a daily basis. The outdoor terrace is a major draw in the summer.

[HTML_REMOVED] Last year, former Le Petit Gourmand manager Axel Moreaux took over operations at La Taverne. He’s done a lot for the restaurant so far, developing a more dynamic menu and a popular ¥78 lunch set. Definitely one of the more authentic slices of France in the capital, La Taverne offers deeply traditional food, a great soundtrack of classic French tunes, French waitstaff and décor that’s far more Brittany than Beijing.

[HTML_REMOVED] The à la carte menu is good, but Moreaux is eager to promote the blackboard menu, which features seasonal dishes that rotate on a daily basis. This is the style of a typical French family-run bistro, and adds to the overall authenticity of the restaurant. On the night we visited, the blackboard menu included a simple but tasty marinated salmon with dill (¥68), and an enormous pot au feu (¥98) beef stew that tasted rustic and home-cooked. Off the regular à la carte menu, we highly recommend the salade au fromage de chevre chaud (¥58), a large green salad topped with goat cheese toasts, made with honey, thyme and walnuts. The rotisserie chicken is one of the restaurant’s most popular dishes, and it’s an excellent deal. For ¥82, you get half of a very sizeable chicken, simply seasoned with rosemary and thyme and cooked to perfection. For now, you have to order the couscous a day in advance, but we got to sample the merguez sausage it’s made with—halal and flown in from Northern Africa—and it is truly excellent.

[HTML_REMOVED] The crepes here—both savory and sweet—are fantastic, but the chocolate mousse (¥39) is another good dessert option. It’s classically creamy and rich, but made with the welcome addition of orange zest.

I had a fantastic savory crepe here, really liked the strong buckwheat flavor it had (oh yeah, and the cheese! Yum~). We went early in the day and pretty much camped out for the whole afternoon, it was really quiet, perfect for a good read.

After a day in Nanshan, I needed a tartiflette so I went to La Taverne with my girlfriend. She took foie gras and I ate a salad. Foie gras was good and the salad , a bit disapointed, there was too salad and not enough ingredients. My tartiflette was really great! But pot au feu of my girlfriend, not for me... We did not eat dessert, the price is quite expensive for the dessert, but for the others meal I think it 's cheap. Decor: some part of the taverne is well decorated but the other part is not. Service is just ok...

Just 3 stars beause the manager need to update your website. We watched just before go and we wanted two dish wich are not in the menu....

If you like French cuisine, you have to go to La Taverne in Beijing. It is across from the French cultural center. Many of their visiters are French, certainly a proof of its authenticity! The manager Axel Moreaux has brought his own touch and his incredible experience in running many restaurants in Beijing to make this restaurant the most authentic French restaurant in Beijing. No need to go to France to taste French cuisine, it is just on the West side of the Worker's stadium. Bon appétit! by D'Elysee

I have been there for almost 3 years with upside down in quality for my regular visits. Was there recently for diner and was pretty impressed of the improvements done recently. Every dish we ordered was good, a special mention to the delicious beef carpaccio. I like the idea of the daily specials together with a decent fixed menu. Very nice atmosphere that reminds me Paris bistros... Keep it like this.

Went here a month ago after a friend's recommendation. Was a bit skeptical at first but as soon as I saw Axel (former manager of Le Petit Gourmand) in there, I thought I'm in for a treat and I was right. From the beginning, service was friendly. Waiters speak English or at least able to understand what we wanted. When we were ready to order, at least two waiters were pretty knowledgeable with what's in the menu and able to explain to us what they are. Wine selection is not extensive but what we ordered were definitely good ones. There were 5 of us, each main dish we ordered was delicious. Their desserts ended the night perfectly. My only drawback was, even though most part of the restaurants were nicely lit to create a perfect ambiance, our table at the corner was more in the dark side. Would've been nicer to have one more soft lighting source in that area. Will come back.

I have to agree with Paticamelo, When I had the brunch 2 months ago, there was a French waiter who know what he was doing, but I came a few days ago, only one out of the 4 waiters could barely speak English and the service was a disaster. Don't know if I'll ever come back there...

One of the most under rated for those looking for ordinary French food (at least outside the French community). The wine list is fairly priced, the coffee is good and the crepes... Oh the crepes...

The only drawback is the service: unless dealing with the manager or the Token French Waiter (obviously in charge of the distressed expat patrons), orders tend to come mixed up; if at all. Also had an exceptionally bad experience after booking a table for dinner, having one of the waiters calling me six times during the afternoon to confirm, only to get to the restaurant and find out that our reservations had been given away. When finally seated, the waitress refused to serve us since we got there 30 minutes before the kitchen's closing time.

SURREAL.

Their main brunch menu priced at RMB 88 is quite decent, with generous portions and a variety of items. Kudos to the fresh orange juice and scrambled eggs. My husband commented that it's one of the best he had, and friends said, "I feel that it's better than Vineyard." It was overall a pleasant experience for me, except that I was overwhelmed by the plethora of Brie Cheese in my Goat Cheese and Mushrooms Crepe that I ALMOST developed a phobia for it.
