A cavernous palace for the carnivorous, this sophisticated Argentinean eatery boasts outstanding steaks and a well-conceived wine list. This is a top place for high-end steak; a shame it's so far out of town, as the lack of patrons there can affect the atmosphere. Still, it's great for when the meat craving hits. Don't leave without trying their to-die-for flan.

Today I wanted to have a nice dinner with friends, but we all left the Obelisco disappointed and we know we'll never come back.
To make a horrible story short: After waiting for 45 mins, the waiter brought our food but left it on the empty table instead of serving us. At first my friends and I didn¹t believe, that the food could really be for us, but 5 minutes later the waiter finally decided to serve us. We were shocked and ask why he was doing this and pleased him to bring us the restaurant manager to explain us this procedure. He refused and instead he offered us to warm up our steaks. I searched for the restaurant manager (Mr. Du Yu) by my self and told him what happened, but he was just laughing. We left this restaurant disappointed and hungry..

A cavernous place, nicely laid out with excellent service. The juicy meats were beautifully cooked but we felt they were a little lacking in the presentation department.
All in all, a nice place but a little too far out of town to warrant regular visits.

Re writing my review: FYI this restaurant has been awarded " one of the most distinguinshed restaurants" in Beijing by the prestigius TATLER Magazine in 2007 !!Alfajores is not a desert .!! It is the place to have real beef without chemicals or fat. They serve you beef and it tastes like beef !! Ambiance is for CCTV artists type, heads of State en yes it is over the top as Beijing deserves an over the top restaurant with real food, why not?

Nice ambiance, might appear a bit 'over-the-top' at first glance, but it is also family friendly (it has a kids playground).
Their grilled dishes are very good, while the other main courses can leave much to be desired. Their "milanesa" is a bit disappointing, as is the lack of "alfajores" on their dessert list.
Very large space, yet comfortable. I do think their location definitely prevents many interested patrons from making the long trip, though.
price/quality probably the worst restaurant in Beijing. very poor assortment of aperitif, poor wine list. steak was chewy and very small , however priced over 300RMB. staff barely speak or understand English. no product knowledge. wine was poured in to a carraf, we didn't even have the chance to taste the wine. wasn't wine,.. was sweetened vinegar. creamy spinach was cold and swimming in milk
sorry to say but will never go again and will not recommend to anyone. very disappointing experience.
