This contemporary restaurant, from owner of SALT Gaby Alves, centers around ceviches, as well as other Peruvian-inspired dishes like causas and empanadas. The chic, industrial atmosphere draws a young trendy crowd with money to spend. Don't miss the delicious churros.

I went there to try out some Slow Boat beers and ended up with a couple of very, very good drinks prepared by the French bartender using some of their infusions. Good enough that I had to go back again and try some more. The next visit he introduced me to some nice rums and a couple of things from their food menu. I still have not tried any of their ceviche, but another visit is certainly in my future.

After walking by this restaurant for over two years I finally decided to give it a try. My friend and I ordered the set lunch. For 98rmb we both got a fava bean salad and a steak with a soft drink. The fava bean salad was very nicely presented with layer upon layer of different (non leafy) colors and tastes. Off to a good start! Service was very attentive and when we were done with the salad the server cleaned the table and brought out our steak. The quality was good but the sauce was a tad too sweet for my liking. Still it was perfectly done with fries on one side and rice with sautéed veggies on the other. There weren’t that many other folks in the restaurant which makes me wonder if people know how good the food is there.

Terra and Salt are two of my favorite restaurants in Beijing. I have been saying nothing for a long time about peoples bashing Gabi and the management at these two places. Infact, she and her great team are the reason that me and my friends go to her places. Does anyone actually spare one thougt to how hard it is to run two places? Especially being a woman in a male dominated world. Gabi and her team are always friendly and helpful. She wins best service at many awards and has done many functions for me that have been very great. So I think that if she were a man then many people would not be bashing her. I love Terra and Salt and I and my friends will continue to go there for nice food and service and original settings. She was the first person to bring contemporary western food to Beijing so Thank you Gabi and your team for doing a very nice job.

totally agree with you franticmantic. I love the food at both SALT and Terra - delicious and creative! but I won't go to either because of Gaby's general rudeness and self-righteousness towards those who helped her make the restaurants a success in the first place - the customers!! shame, really, Terra is nice and close to my place but on principle I refuse to contribute to Gaby's already ridiculous ego.

I've always enjoyed dining at Salt. However, having met with friends for drinks at Terra recently, I was outraged by the offensively rude 'service' by Gabbie. The waitstaff were all busy and so I left our table to order a (mediocre tasting) cocktail at the bar. Gabbie took my order and after instructing the bartender on my order, proceeded to stare blankly at me. After a pause due to my obvious confusion, she rubbed her fingers together (gesturing for money) and gave me a condescending look expecting payment. I paid for my drink, bewildered and angered, as she sternly told me that she'd have the drink delivered to our table. Shortly after, and still appalled, my friends and I ask for our bill (minus my one drink Gabbie rudely insisted on me paying for at the bar) and left.
That was my first and last visit to Terra and will no longer be considering Salt as a viable dining option anymore.

They manage well for the small space Terra has to work with. But the reason to keep coming back to Terra is the weekend brunch options (free flow and either a two or three course meal for a little more than 300 RMB). It's a most satisfying way to spend an afternoon.

Fantastic food ,great service. We tried the set lunch 2 courses, we were impressed by the freshness of the fish in the ceviche. And also tried the sea bass Moqueca and it was great we felt for 98yuan with a coffee included it was very affordable, the only problem is that we spend 15 min to find the place i think they should do something in order to let the place more visible.

I am really loving this restaurant. I just got home from a great dinner with friends that everyone thought was outstanding. We went for the set dinner option. It was very good value. Just 198 yuan for three courses and I think 178 for two courses. The ceviche was super fresh and delicious and the risotto perfect for my taste. Of course, their desserts are a nice way to finish. The service has improved so much since I was there a few months ago, I think that because Gaby the owner, who usually is at Salt, is there most of the time now (so the staff said) and they have many staff now with great looks and very good English. The cocktails were very professionally made and the wine presented and explained well. I also went there with some colleagues for lunch this week. Everyone is impressed.

One of the city's gems. Fresh ceviche to die for, great happy hours and promotions and excellent service. I like the modern decor and little garden. The weekend brunch deal is a winner and it is the same chef from Salt, so everything tastes amazing. I have now been there for several functions and private dinners, all to be commended. Thumbs up.

Unless you understand the taste of ceviche and like it really, it doesnt make sense to pay up for the premium. Its popular-the ceviche , few say, but the problem is the place above the toilets .I would prefer to invite someone in a Village location rather than there specially for a date. Morever if Gaby makes some appearances there, the customers would cheer up perhaps. Desserts are good, should mention this.Decor is good sure.Anyway service is quite fine like many other decent western restaurants like Mosto or Modo.

Again, a happy FlashBuy deal customer. After numerous times had to cancel plan to try Terra, this time we finally went there. Because of the deal. It was a great deal and very good value for money. I like the service there, but I think with Gaby behind it, it's expected to be good. Decor, even though I'm not really a big fan of the exterior, the interior is pretty comfortable. I like the whole black and white thing going on.
We had 5-course brunch. The first three courses, Prawn Salad, Seafood Ceviche and Chicken Cause were delicious. We really enjoyed all of them. The tastes were all fresh and after all those hearty meal we had during winter, it's a nice change in our taste buds. Perfect to kick-off the spring season. Now, for the fourth course, I chose Tuna Saltado, a sauteed tuna escalopes with smoked potato foam & red wine reduction. I should've probably chosen the Lamb Rack since the Tuna even though it's unique but it was a bit lack in flavor. My friend's Beef Tenderloin Steak was good but nothing really special with it. At one point it felt a bit boring. I wish it was more juicy and has more kick to it. Last course, Churros with Melted Chocolate. I have sweet tooth so it's hard for me not to like sweet fried dessert dipped in rich warm melted chocolate. But I've had better.
Wish I can give 3.5 stars. But I would love to go back there again for more ceviches, so 4 stars.

Enjoyed the Sunday brunch bought here with flashbuy. This was certainly a great deal. I have only been to Salt one time (18 months ago) and Terra is much better. The food was excellent, very tasty and well presented. Only the octopus was disappointing. It was not fresh and way to salty. Wish they served us more bread also. Service was above average for China but they should learn to serve the lady first. The decor is nice but too much black paint in the window where we sat. Too bad as today was a nice sunny day.

I also went for the weekend brunch with my wife and baby. The food was excellent. The seafood was very succulent and the steak and rack of lamb very good quality. The service was friendly but not obtrusive. They also provided paper and crayons to keep the baby amused. We had the flashbuy special offer which was an exceptionally good deal, but I wouldn't hesitate to go for the normal weekend brunch. Overall, we had a very pleasant afternoon, and we look forward to visting the place again soon.

I went back to Terra yesterday, for their brunch and I was impressed. They offer three options for brunch, on both Saturday and Sunday: One with Champagne and Caparinhas, one with sparking and cocktails as well and one with just food. All come with five set courses, and you can choose between three options for the fourth course. We opted for the Sparkling and cockatils and started with mojitos and caparinhas which were mixed perfectly. The the food began and a tangy ceviche came out first - perfecto! I am a Ceviche fan and this was light, citrusy and well-balanced. The next course was a potato and lentil foam with gorganzola and crispy parma ham it balanced the punch of the first dish with more subtle, full flavors. The third dish was a return to Seafood with grilled baby squid - the squid was soft in side and simple herbs and vegetables were a great combination. I chose the steak as my main and it was cook perfectly and came with fresh vegetables and a Malbec (one of my favorite wines) sauce. Two of my friends went for the rack of lamb and it was a lovely pink inside and served with a pumpkin risotto, baby vegetables and pinenuts. For dessert were the delicious Churros served with warm dark chocolate dipping sauce - yum yum yum. And at 358RMB for all that and free flow Sparkling, cocktails and beers, I would have to say it is one of the best value and most delicious brunches in town. They also had a DJ playing cool tunes which added to a really great day.

Well, it’s been open over 6 months now so no “teething problem” excuses! The first thing that hit me when the door opened, literally, was the smell of toilets. My husband went to the toilet later on and apparently there is a little bottle of nice smelling oil in there. They’ll need more than that!!! We had 2 set lunches which looked appealing enough. The Manageress was extremely pleasant and lovely with our kids. That’s the extent of the niceness of the place. They brought the gorgeous cheesy “scones” (obviously copied from Alameda) but these weren’t cooked through. My potato and gorgonzola soup was more like cheesy mashed potato and cold. The gnocchi that came after was really bland. My husband had a seafood ceviche which was nice (but not amazing) however the maincourse of sole was the consistency of rubber. We’d have left it at that but when the waitress came to tell us that the menu included a glass of wine/beer or soft drink we declined explaining we’d have coffee after (which is included). Imagine our shock when we got the bill and found out we were charged 38rmb each for a latte and an espresso! When the manageress was called she pointed at the menu and said that the set lunch only included “regular” coffee. No apology, nothing. We told her we had informed the waitress about our choice of drinks but she just wasn’t interested. I wish I’d gone to Starbucks for my coffee and had a drink instead. Oh, and my soup + gnocchi was rmb98 (set lunch) but when we ordered just 1 plate of gnocchi for our kids to share we were charged rmb88. Only 10 kuai less than another set lunch. To top it all off the Churros which we’d read great reviews about were also disappointing – the middle wasn’t cooked. I’ve had better churros from Nanluoguxiang! Needless to say, we won’t be going back and certainly won’t be recommending it to friends. Gaby’s going to have to work harder than that if she wants Terra to be a busy trendy venue.

The food is simply sensational! We went on the evening of Valentine's day and therefore had the v-day menu which was worth every penny. It was Rmb298 per person and came with a complimentary drink. We had the combination seafood ceviche and it was awesome. I especially loved the maki rolls. When dessert came, it was heaven for me. The churros were delicious. Will go back for more.

I dined here with 3 gfs and we had a nice evening overall...however there were some problems i thought...firstly tables were either located in an area where u were freezing and needed to keep your jacket on or somewhere where the hot air was blowing on u! secondly....you need ur own translator for the menu.. luckily the lady in charge does know the menu well, however i kept forgetting what some dishes were... I ordered a chicken , avocado and leek dish...cant remember the name, it was spanish... it was very very nice... i just wish it was bigger... then i shared a grilled baby octopus vege dish with my friend... it was quite nice and i do love baby octopus but i found the herbs in the dish were way to many... half the amount would have been fine... i was scraping it off before eating it.. their passionfruit mojito is an absolute WINNER!! im pretty much considered a non drinker...but i loved that drink.... just lovely... the layout of the place is great... hard to believe a year ago i was downing a burger watching football in the same building...... but overall the price for the amount of food served...i found just wasnt justified... however i would go back just to have the passionfruit mojito :))))

Gabbie Alves and her team have once again hit the spot. Terra is a terrific little gem of a cevicheria (in Beijing at last at last!) with tasty dishes and creative drinks.I have seen this in New York,London and South America but never in Asia - horah.
I rocked up for Terra's late-night Happy Hour last night and was not disappointed. The staff as to be expected were kind and corteous and the western manager was very helpful.
I enjoyed a caparinya for less the 40 kuai and my friends had a bucket of overseas beers for I think around 100 kuai. We shared the ceviche and cauza tasting and were encourage to try the Leche de Tigre - it is three "shots" of ceviche juice with vodka. I have never had anything like it, yay for bringing me something new! They had a DJ playing and it was nice to be around a group of people who were enjoying delicious food and a cool ambience and what must have taken a mammoth effort to create.
After reading through online comments dissing this place, I am at a loss for words. I guess the sophistication level of people who think burgers are a gourmet food cant stomach good taste. Give me a break (sigh).
Anyone who doesnt like this place or thinks $10 is too much for good food, really shouldn't be reviewing restaurants. Wake up Beijing - this is 2010.

Absolutely loved this place. Tastefully done interiors, with all the little details that count, from the mosaic floor tiles to the chic black table sets and not-so-ergonomic triangular plates. We had fantastic octopus skewers well marinated and cooked, a perfectly executed seafood cerviche and the scallop quinoa for mains. A faultless dining experience and I'm definitely coming back to try more.

The food is pricey. I had lunch in which my friend and I shared the seafood ceviche and we each had an order of empanada. We didn't order any wine or soda. We each paid nearly 150rmb. Not good value for the meal. The ceviche was fresh and good. The empanada wasn't exceptional. We couldn't help but being nostalgic for the old Rickshaw where we had fond memories.

I was very impressed with this place. Modern surroundings, impeccable service and excellent food. The only downer being the lack of wines by the glass (3 white and 4 red I think). A place like this should have more.
The seafood is excellent and obviously really fresh. Opted for the octopus skewers which were super soft and tasty and married perfectly with the basil mashed potato and shredded leeks. The tuna ceviche was both tart and spicy and stuffed with soft chunks of fish. The dish was decorated with a seared scallop which was one of the best ever tasted and melted in the mouth. The meal was rounded off with churros and a warm dark chocolate soup. Amazingly good and well worth coming back for more.

[HTML_REMOVED] [HTML_REMOVED]Second Bite Review, October, 2011[HTML_REMOVED]
[HTML_REMOVED] When Terra opened last year, expectations were high. How could they not be, given that the restaurant is owned by Gaby Alves, the same woman who brought us SALT and introduced Brazilian cheesebreads to the city? But a sudden turnover of chefs in the restaurant’s early days kept Terra from reaching full potential. Now, with Peruvian chef Paulo de Souza in the kitchen, the restaurant’s delivering on its promise.
[HTML_REMOVED] The fall menu showcases South American fare and seafood, offering rich, autumnal flavors without being heavy or bland. A Malbec beef reduction and stir-fried peppers give the seared scallop causa (¥68) a slight smoky flavor, and the potato base lends a comfort-food texture, but the high quality scallops keep things light. We adored the hot prawn ceviche (¥78), made with an al dente slice of pumpkin and shrimp that are small but bursting with flavor, complemented by fava beans, asparagus and arugula. Pumpkin dishes are typical for fall, but this one is surprisingly spicy and refreshing, thanks to a delicious citrus chili sauce. For mains, seafood enthusiasts won’t want to miss the catch of the day (available on the ¥178-198 set dinner menus). It’s a mountain of fish, mussels, and clams atop a tomato base with gnocchi-sized pieces of potato. The fish on the day we went was some of the best cod we’ve ever had—flavorful, tender and flakey, its saltiness offset perfectly by the tomato.
[HTML_REMOVED] Terra’s churros have always been excellent, but the suspiro de Lima (¥48) is another good dessert option. Suspiro is the Peruvian word for “meringue,” and the sweet is a martini glass filled with tart lemon custard, with crumbly pastry at the bottom and a tasty cinnamon skin on top.
