Previously one of Beijing's most stunning private event spaces, this 600-year-old ancient temple courtyard is now open to the public as a chic, modern bar. Relax in the shade of bamboo with a gin and tonic or luxuriate on an antique love seat with a fresh-fruit mojito.

Very cool venue! The acoustics are bar none for live music, and the location is one of those "only in Beijing" moments. A little tricky to find if you don't know the neighborhood. Easiest just to drop off at Cafe Sambal sign, then walk down that hutong lane. You should see the sign.

The temple has been renovated to a stunning venue. It's like an upscale version of Bed Bar. Drinks are reasonably priced. Definitely a place to bring out-of-town visitors. I especially loved the disco ball rhinoceros. It's definitely a hidden gem in the Gulou area.

The correct entrance to the contemple temple bar is from Doufuchi hutong, east side of the hong en' guan temple, ( 100m east of cafe sambal ) tel: 010 6407 6778
The entrance from Zhangwang no 4 ( golden gate ) is only used for privtate functions.

It's so beautiful. The night we went, nobody was there, and we were just lazing around on the outdoor swing. But it got better when the barman invited us to sit at the back area, where the actual "temple" part of this bar really comes alive. Perfect cap to a good China day. Can't wait to try this place in the daytime
