Half palatial indoor lounge and half sprawling rooftop wonderland, the Park Hyatt's chic lounge fuses traditional Chinese architecture and contemporary design to stunning effect. Bartenders mix divine cocktails while jazz and pop bands rally the dance floor, but the real star of the show is XIU's gorgeous vista of the CBD.

Went here last week. Expensive place specially if you are heavy drinker and more so the whisky or whisky based shots are pretty expensive. There is a good vibe and a mix of people but more want to show off wealthy chinese or expats. You will be ripped off if your group really drinks here. Music is fine, but pretty crowded place. Only if you want to impress someone be here to spend a fortune .Service levels are erratic. Its your good luck if you find a waiter on a thursday night or on weekend. You need to fight through the people to get a drink from the bar forget a place to sit !

Ladies night attracts a mixed bag of women and naturally some sleazy men, and the line stretches out into the lobby those nights. Still, the live music is amazing and reason enough to wait in a long line.

I think Xiu has great decor, and good overall atmosphere. As for the drinks: really over priced for drinks that are not great. I have had better at places that offer much cheaper drinks. The band is also not great in my opinion. They are great at making a good show, but when it comes to singing, they don't make the cut and sometimes it's hard to listen to.

Best place to go out in Beijing !!! Sometimes crowded but definitely best place for networking, drink... and dates :)

overrated... i'm not a hater, but i definitely had high hopes coming in as all you hear these days is that 'show', 'xiu' is the hot spot. place is definitely nice decor wise, but experience wise wasn't anything that would make me want to go back for round 2.
went on a saturday night around 1230. place was packed solid shoulder to shoulder which is not so good for dancing, but bearable since there's a pretty chillax outdoor patio/terrace area. im not big on cocktails; i like to just hit the sauce and get down on the dance floor so maybe i might be a little biased as i thought the drinks were very overpriced and the music was pretty standard fare. but for a hyatt hotel bar the thats to be expected i suppose. i guess the whole show element is that they have a live cover band but i thought they were pretty garbage and couldn't wait till they packed it up and the dj came on.
id say check it out once just to peep the scene, maybe as an appetizer or pregame spot. but if you're really looking to meet some talent and do some dirty dancing, leave this place for the tourists.

Xiu seems to have made a 180 since the last review by me. Owner Albert has obviously been on top of the trainings and the overall operations, which can be seen by the huge improvement in service and the quality of the beverages.
A special shout-out to Max, who makes the meanest LIT's on this side of the Jing!

Great deco and view, very classy and stylish, But sadly that's All Xiu has got.
Dacing area is street style, messy crowdy, isn't Xiu a place to showoff? where the Hell is the stage?
We got our drinks pretty quick, but bartanters seems a bit lost makes you feel can't get the attetntion from them.
I don't get why the band stand in the sand, to keep distance from the crowd so they can feel they are STAR? give me a break, you are not that famous and your song only beautiful when I'm drunk.
It's a place to bring your newly contacted clients, not a place to look for fun, though I did had fun that's b/c I'm fun Not Xiu is a fun place ;)

Nice decor, overpriced drinks (but reasonable considering where you are) and some obnoxious clientele. A lot of slutty gold diggers are there as well as sleazy older expats. Live band was horrible. The singer can't sing and I'm surprised customers have to be subjected to that noise called music. A normal DJ would be much nicer. For all the snobs who think Tun Ba is too low class, yet want to find someone; this is the place for you

I always have fun when I come to this bar, and it doesn't matter where we start the night we always seem to end up here! the venue is really nice especially in the summer when the rooftop patio is open. It's a place where you can chill out with your friends or dance the night away and meet new people. The dance area is rather small but intimate, though at times it can get crowded. The girls are beautiful and the guys seem to be classier than at some of the other venues. I always seem to find interesting people to talk to and dance with every time I come.

haha. I find it amusing. Read the number and content of the reviews of this place, and see the list of nominations. HOW DOES THAT WORK? :D

This place is meant for 5 star crowd, who have enough money and class, not for commoners. The guys who stay there or few rich people ,not for commoners. In summer its a good place specially on weekends to see the rich and famous partying . Yes I too have hiccups in service.

The most obnoxious bar in town. Starting with the velvet rope which was fencing us off to a half empty bar full of hookers. When we got in, it was the worst sound system being used by the loudest worst band that ever toured the miserable hotel circuit extremely loudly. When we got a table next to some young Chinese business men playing drinking games with their new hooker friends, it took us ages to finally get a drink. Maybe it was because we were the only foreigners there not a prostitute or a white male in a suite over 50, (we still had all our hair and one of us dared to wear jeans) but it took us a ridiculously long time to get the attention of the waiter who was always walking around but we couldn't quite figure out what he was doing. Drinks blah, crowd worse, ambiance made me feel either suicidal or homicidal. Even if your staying at the Hyatt I recommend you avoid this bar for your own sanity.

one grand down, 4 pushy bouncers and clothing "misplaced" by the rude waiter. amazing Xiu!

I was DELIGHTED by the gracious service that the staff at this much-touted Park Hyatt establishment provided me. I believe that Robert, bar manager on duty the evening of Saturday Dec 5th, deserves extra-special mention, for his patronizing attitude and excellence in staff training. Park Hyatt Beijing should be especially proud of his amazing ability to spit out one-liners that highlight his warm and hospitable nature. Seriously though, its one thing to be told 2-3 different 'rules' about minimum charge and table regulations by regular staff who are probably looking to line their own pockets, but when the bar manager finally strolls along to help resolve the issue, he shouldn't really offer his own unapologetic explanation of the inconsistencies, should he? And, when you ask him which policy --among the numerous ones you've been fed-- is accurate, should he really shoot back with, "Well which one do you want to hear?"

Please, please, please find another band! The one thing that i can see from every report here is that everyone agrees that the music here is the worst band in Beijing and possibly Asia!
The drinks are very slow and the security a little overboard but Xiu is still the best looking and most comfortable bar in Beijing. The only problem is the staff are just no where near as good as the venue deserves. -

This bar's all "xiu" and no substance.
Part of a growing trend to feign exclusivity by having a velvet rope and an arbitrary door policy, Xiu's alot like putting lipstick on a pig.
Sure, there are a few pretty people. Sure the drinks are good. And sure, the view is killer. But for every hottie, there's a hooker. For every great cocktail, there's the 90 kuai bill that comes with it. And the view's only useful 4 month out of the year. The rest of the time you get packed into the main lounge listening to that godawful band while desperately trying to get someone to actually bring you one of the overpriced Hyatt drinks.
Its a hotel bar, people. Back home you wouldn't stand in line for 2 seconds to drink $15 cocktails at a Hyatt... why in God's name would you do it here?

Maybe I should give this place another chance, but I don't think I'll ever get around to it. The whole bouncer, line at the door thing is obnoxious. If I'm going to be subjected to face control and bouncers being "exclusive", I want everyone inside the club to be awesome and hot, but that was not the case. Within 10 seconds of getting to Xiu some guys walked all over my feet and practically pushed me over without apologizing or even noticing-- not exactly the high quality clientele that a snotty door policy should get you. The band is lame. Seriously if you're just going to play silly pop music, put on a CD. There's no need for a band. I guess I just don't get why people like this place. It seems like an overrated, needless hassle to me.

Xiu gets its clientele from its decor and its association to the Park Hyatt. This means they don't have to work to distinguish themselves from the competition, which has the foreseeable implication that the place is overpriced for what it offers. My food sucked (pretty much, there's no other way of saying it) and the band is corny. Better go to Q bar (but not on week-end they're too busy).

hilarious on a saturday night. a ring of bouncers lock arms to guard the entrance and the supposed exclusivity and "classiness" of this place. once you have bitched and yelled and pushed yourself inside, a parade of pretentious wannabes and gold-diggers kills any chance of a nice atmosphere provided by the original decor and admittedly astounding terrace. numerous foreigners left the place with aghast and disgusted expressions on their faces. this joint is nothing more than a trashy dive bar for Beijing nouveaux riches. the only saving grace (besides the terrace) was a bevy of jaw-droppingly statuesque models (all over 185 cm at least) who arrived and broke up the monotony a bit before tiring of it themselves and leaving shortly afterward.

I was lucky enough to have a friend hosting a birthday here on monday...for a weeknight it wasn't bad. The caveat with my review is that my friend lives at the Park Hyatt, was familiar with the manager, and had ordered a very generous table service. That being said, the table service was very attentive...our drinks were poured all night, bottles of whisky, vodka and champagne were all quickly poured. The plates for cake (that we brought ourselves) and chilled strawberries were delicious. The crowd was top notch (including Zhang Ziyi, who was at the table next to us). The different rooms (lounge, live music bar, cigars and a outdoor area) were all very laidback and exuded ultra-cool, rather than the over the top meat markets of CHP west gate. Thumbs up for the vibe--definately a new it place in town!

One of the best places to chill out in BJ. I would say Xiu is something that the owners of Suzie Wong wanted to have when opened the club. The drinks are not very expensive but its so hard to get any at the bar, especially during the ladies night on Thursdays. The staff is always quite helpful and speaks nice English. I love the rooftop from where I can see my office )) I would recommend the managers to get a face control and dress code system to avoid barby chinese hookers and stinky chinese guys wearing sporty shorts and sneakers hanging around and trying to touch u at the dance floor. I guess the place is supposed to have more classy guests who prefer Moet but not a cheap baijiu hidden in the pocket. The band is cool, really I love the music the guys play. Awesome.

Xiu is an excellent bar/lounge that provides a refreshing getaway from the old and boring Beijing's hiphop club scene. I spent many a summer night there enjoying the company, the band, and the view. Oh, the view. It's so unique, right smack on the 6th floor in the middle of all the other high-rises... Reminds me of private parties in LA's swankiest homes. The prices of drinks are very reasonable considering the venue too.
The one caveat? It gets pretty crowded in the weekends and GAWD do I hate long lines in front of the ladies' room. Haven't people realized by now that there are always lines in the women's bathrooms and pretty much never in front of the men's? Why don't you make the bathrooms co-ed so the empty bathroom stalls in the men's room can be used more efficiently.

You can take a hotel bar and put it in a fake siheyuan, but it's still a hotel bar. Get rid of the band, please.

I'll admit we may have come on an 'off' night, but we could not have had a less pleasant experience with our Friday evening at Xiu.
The security at the door was overbearing and unhelpful. Despite having booked a large table, they refused to look at guest lists, insisting that all wait in line, which was not formed on the basis of allowing an over-packed club to empty out, but rather just to have you wait.
Once inside, the numerous waiters, waitresses, hosts and hostesses bustling around the entry area were equally unhelpful. We spoke to four in total regarding the whereabouts of our table, to which none had a ready answer nor seemed particularly attentive to finding out. We eventually dropped the subject and located an empty one ourselves.
The night appeared to be evening out until we requested another bucket of ice with our bottle service. A waitress came, removed both the empty bucket and our bottle. A different waiter returned with a full bucket of ice, but no bottle... which by no stretch of the imagination had been even close to empty. When asked, the waiter did not know what had come of our bottle, the initial waitress was nowhere to be found and, apparently, neither were the managers.
We left promptly thereafter.
All of this could generally be excused, maybe even expected, in a number of other venues. But for a lounge obviously keen to position itself as the best Beijing has to offer, catering to a discerning and up-market clientele, these are regrettable operating standards.
On a brighter note, the venue truly is a very nice space, so I hope they're able to work out the kinks. But, in the meantime, if you're looking to impress--for business, for pleasure or for whatever else--I'd say think twice about a night out at Xiu.

The Sky Pavilion
Despite an abundance of elegant courtyard restaurants, Beijing has surprisingly few bars and clubs that draw inspiration from the capital’s traditional architectural legacy. XIU, the Park Hyatt’s upscale rooftop bar and lounge, is the jaw-dropping exception. Half palatial indoor lounge and half sprawling rooftop wonderland, XIU seamlessly fuses the traditional and the contemporary. Outside, water flows around the terrace’s sharp edges, while the recessed foundations of the buildings give revelers the impression of a colossal Chinese pavilion suspended in mid-air. Bartenders expertly mix divine cocktails while chefs barbecue meat and vegetables outside. The Grand Marnier cosmo (¥65) is sublime. Entertainment on weekends ranges from live jazz to peppy cover bands that drive the dance floor with updates on pop classics. The real star of the show, however, is the view looking over Jianwai Soho and into south Beijing. It’s the perfect spot to pop the cork on a bottle of Moët (¥880), light up a Cohiba Robusto (¥340) and celebrate how far Beijing has come.
