This dance club redefined the Beijing club experience when it opened in 2004, eschewing neon affectation for a roomier, multi-level, multi-room design. Several remodelings later, Tango is still a great place to party, but KTV encroachment has diminished the space in which to do it. Nonetheless, it's one of the few big clubs in town to regularly feature big DJ names hot on the global club circuit.

Great place, even better with good events.

was headed to star live upstairs in the same building to check out a boys noize show but got there a little too early so decided to hit up tango for some quick pregame action. was actually pleasantly surprised. i'm big on electronic music and the dj on saturday night was throwing down some dope tech house/ hip hop mashups. so definitely no complaints on the music if you like it loud. only thing is there were way too many guys there playing the role of the wallflower/creeper. so every girl there thought she was too cool for school since there were at least ten guys hitting on them. for the better looking ones i'd say twenty. so cool spot to go with a group of friends, but until they get the ratio in check, not the best place to go fishing.

I recently moved to the lama temple area and expected a nice, local, low-key place to hang out. But it was incredibly loud, not at all the mellow, lounge-y place I expected based on user and editorial reviews. We went for drinks and the DJ kept cranking it up little by little until it was intolerable. My ears were still ringing the next day. Plus, the crowd was not local, some were really young, not a sophisticated group at all.How young do you have to be to think that's cool? Tango is populated by young professionals who would like a cool, lounge-y bar to hang out at, rather than just sports bars. This is not it. Truly, the nice drinks and appearance of this bar cannot make up for the unsavory crowd and ridiculous noise level.

Great Club!

A-okay. Tango puts on far and away some of the wildest techno parties in Beijing. Can't wait for A Guy Called Gerald in April.

Another vote for Tango: these guys are bringing Loco Dice and Robert Hood in the space of a week. This is the best club in town, hands down right now. More power to the Tango crew.

Caught the Ken Ishii show last night and was reflecting on his show last year, same venue. Last year the dance floor was the size of a postage stamp but they've cleared off a bunch of the tables creating a decent sized dance floor which is really one of the best of the Beijing big clubs. There's never any wait for drinks and I've never had a problem with staff or anything. It's really a great mid-point between White Rabbit and Tang Hui in terms of market target and critical output. It's got a heathly vibe (unlike The Rabbit which can be decidedly un-healthy at times) but doesn't waste time with frills like Russian strippers and bottle flipping. Ishii threw a great set, but the people behind tango deserve credit for keeping the place abreast of the changing topology of nightlife, with music and dancing at the core.

was there on the weekend to see Sven Vath and although he was dropping dope beats the bar was serving up an all 50 kuai menu with no other beer than tsingtao. so 50 for a tsing 50 for a mixed drink and even 50 for a red bull or a bottle of water! booo!
