Description -
Culture Yard is an international culture center, located in a traditional Chinese courtyard in the heart of Beijing. Created and run by a multi-national team of young and enthusiastic individuals, Culture Yard aims to promote Language and Culture learning and understanding among the local and expat communities in Beijing and to introduce Beijingers to culture from the rest of the world.
We believe the first step to understanding is to be able to communicate in each others' language. Culture Yard therefore offers various language courses in Chinese, English, and other languages with a specific focus on oral communication skills and an extra emphasis on Culture related topics. The courses are taught by experienced and dedicated teachers, at different levels, and both in individual and group classes.
Then the next step is learning outside of the classroom. Our courtyard is a place to meet, to learn from each other, and simply have a good time! We organize cultural and social activities, such as: hiking, excursions, movie nights, mahjong classes, wine tasting, Chinese tea workshops, and much more!
For more information, please contact Culture Yard at contact@cultureyard.net or 010-84044166. Or feel free to drop in, we have free Wi-fi and sell a range of beers, teas and coffee and toasted sandwiches!

The first reason to go to Culture Yard is the setting! It's located in a beautiful renovated hutong courtyard, the glass roof lets in the sun, making it surprisingly warm even in winter. The atmosphere is relaxing, they have a range of books to read, free wi-fi and pretty good toasted sandwiches, something you don't find in Beijing that often! I've enjoyed just hanging out there a number of times.
Secondly is the people, the staff are always friendly, happy to chat and lend a hand, a mixture of interesting international waiguoren and local Beijingers, so a good place to practice your Chinese if you are that way inclined.
And lastly I've attended a number of the activities, the Halloween event, a workshop about Chinese tea and the Chinese Language and Culture Workshop and they have all been excellent. Hosted with a lot of warmth and enthusiasm, you can tell everyone really cares about what they are doing and want to make a difference in Beijing. I would particularly recommend the Chinese Language and Culture Workshop, my level is good enough but can do with improving in the listening and speaking department, so the workshop is perfect. Interesting topics and I felt like I was really learning something useful about China. So whether you are just passing through or here to stay, I would recommend getting involved in Culture Yard! There seems to be a wide range of actvities to interest anyone!
