Fashionista: Vanessa Yuan
After earning a master's degree in international marketing in Sweden, Vanessa Yuan moved to Shanghai five years ago to begin her career. As a self-proclaimed fashion addict and avid online shopper, she naturally gravitated towards the growing e-commerce industry. She currently works as a marketing director for a new e-retailer, Glamour Sales. It’s a fitting job for Yuan, whose friends describe her as a fashion and shopping enthusiast. With a fashion philosophy based in variety, Vanessa’s style doesn’t easily fit in one category. "My husband would describe my style as mix and match—a fusion between Euro and Asian, a kind of hipster urban look."
Her style icons reflect this sensibility, ranging from tomboy chic Alexa Chung to off-beat uptown Sarah Jessica Parker. Most of Vanessa’s remaining style inspiration comes from online resources like Style.com, fashion blogs and Net-A-Porter’s iPad magazine. This sartorial taste translates into a mishmash of gems acquired online. “I shop online from several cool Taobao stores, asos.com, shopbop.com, glamour-sales.com.cn, my-wardrobe.com.” Traditional brick and mortar items are also incorporated from IT and ZARA, along with boutiques on fashionable shopping footfalls like Julu Lu, Maoming Lu, Changle Lu and Jinxian Lu. Here, Vanessa wears a coat and denim shirt bought in Hong Kong, red boots by as know as, pants from Dirah and a richly hued JIE handbag.
