Decent pasta, fresh juice, and a nice vibe.

Maybe I'm hungrier when I go there, but I could honestly swear that portion sizes are getting smaller.

Case in point, last Friday I had the chicken and pesto penne... on previous visits the bowl was 3/4 full. This time it was less than half. And the chicken was more-than-averagely stringy and covered by a very tasteless pesto.

Added to that, Mrs Narsfs had Norwegian (?) salmon salad - with three wafer-thin slices of very salty salmon, the rest of the salad was mostly air and stale bread.

Still, I see these places are opening everywhere, so there really must be a market for poorly-executed pasta and pretentious cafe surroundings.

Whilst I stay clear away from Wagas' salads and sandwiches (not that they aren't good, just that I can't be bothered wasting stomach space on food like that), I adore their pastas, specifically the bacon and cream pasta. It's a mound of pasta, a scattering of bacon and slathered in a very thick cream sauce. I like the portion size (a pasta + a dessert is enough for a filling meal) and the other pasta combinations are also delicious.

Their Iced mocha is top notch! Cery very creamy and rich, and sweet. It's laced with liquid chocolate drizzled in and perfect on a hot summer's day.

One of my favourite desserts there is their Mocha cupcakes, which actually comes from Baker + Spice bakery. It's moist, flavourful, and the mocha icing is creamy.

I usually also takeaway a slice of their Banana bread, to toast up the next day for breakfast, served with a big pat of butter.

The only downside to Wagas is their apparent reluctance to give "fapiao ge ren". When you ask, they'll hastily say they'll bring it to your table. BUT THEY NEVER DO. Ever. Unless you repeatedly remind them. It's like they try to evade giving you a fapiao as much as possible, hoping you'll forget. What the hell?

I went to Wagas on Jiaozhou yesterday afternoon to do some work. The wi-fi was down (everyone with a laptop was having trouble connecting), but despite our frequent entreaties to the staff, nothing was done about it. I asked if they could reset their router, or do a simple switch on/switch off, but to no avail. Since it casts itself as a wi-fi cafe, they should be quicker off the mark when it comes to solving problems with it.

I like the sandwiches at Wagas but have never been a big fan of the coffee--serving it in a glass tumbler with a useless tissue wrapped around it not only looks pretentious and frumpy but it means I have to wait a few minutes for it to cool down before I can take a sip because the cup is too hot to touch. To top it off, it was bitter, and whenever I ordered a "regular coffee" I suspected I was getting served an Americano, which explained the intensity of the flavor but not the bitterness. Yesterday, however, because I ordered my food to go and hovered near the counter while they were making my sandwich, I saw why the coffee is so terrible. I ordered a large "regular coffee" for RMB24, then watched the clerk pull a shot of espresso, deal with another customer, answer a phone call, pour the shot into a paper cup (some 4-5 minutes after the shot was pulled, meaning the espresso was now cold and extremely bitter) then run water through the espresso grinds A SECOND TIME to fill a glass with murky brown water. Basically I was served the swampy dregs of some espresso grinds and then overcharged for it. The funky sharp taste is no longer a mystery and I will no longer be ordering coffee there. Two tips for the management: 1. Train your employees how to prepare coffee (and distinguish brewed coffee and Americanos on the menu). 2. Hire people that enjoy drinking coffee or have at least tried a good cup before so they can't, in good conscience, serve backwash.

why would you rate yourselves only 4 stars? love the paninis. the salad dressings could have more oomph though. reasonable prices, nice place to hang out.

My bacon and brie breakfast panini has been replaced with bacon and cheddar. Way too sharp a taste for the morning.

Yuck. Bring back the brie.

I finally managed to get out of bed early enough for a Wagas breakfast before 10am, when the 50% promotion ends. My friend and I arrived just before the clock struck 10, and decided on ordering a Wagas big breakfast each.

Wagas has a cozy interior, perhaps the reason most customers stay for a really long time. Its great for getting work done, sipping a coffee with your notebook open. The only thing that isn’t conducive for quiet time is the volume of the music which you start noticing after a while.

Anyway, the breakfast I ordered arrived quite quickly, and for 30rmb, I got 3 eggs sunny-side-up, pretty decent spinach cooked Chinese-style (I think), bacon, a toasted Panini with butter and great jam, and a small portion of baked beans. I ordered a latte on the side for only 12rmb, but it came in a small rock glass, which was okay. For a big breakfast it wasn’t that big, but came in a decent enough portion. I liked the jam and the spinach, the bacon was pretty good too. Everything else was so-so, but compared to element fresh, I definitely have to say that breakfast at Wagas is way better value-for-money.

While not bad, I have to say I think the food is consistently mediocre, so at least they are consistent
