Had to return the soup TWICE back to the kitchen. 1. they gave me the wrong soup 2. The corn soup was TOTALY bland (tasted like hot corn wanter), it was digusting. The waiter said thats how the chef wanted to be...ok... but without any arguments she wanted to give us a complimentary dessert. Im happy they didnt play the blame game like 99 percent of the restaurants in Shanghai. Trying to defend for themselves, but nope The strip acted as a team The truffle mac n cheese was wonderful. Its everything i wanted, the truffle flavor was rich and well balanced. The steak was perfectly cooked in terms of seasoning and perfectly charred outside. The quality was superb. However, i felt the presentation felt short. Where is the copper skillet? Why is it on a plain white plate? I would like to have the steak a little thicker, its a bit to thin. Overall a nice effort and a pleasant experience. For a full REVIEW and PICTURES please check my food blog: http://fattoro.com/2012/02/20/the-strip-prime-steakhouse-pleasant-surprise/

REAL DEAL PRIME STEAK HERE: Having waited for years to have real prime steak in my adopted hometown, its disconcerting to hear "beef amateurs" comment on the steak at "The Strip". As a born and bred Chicago guy, I know my beef. With respect to my NY colleagues, your favorite steak, including Peter Luger's, comes from Chicago. So if you have a beef with the steak here, you just don't like US Prime beef. Sure, we all have our preferences, and they are just that; at times I would love to have a higher fat, buttery Japanese wagyu that melts in my mouth, but when homesick for the beef capital of the US, if not the world, this is not only closest to home... it is home. As far as knitpicking over creamy desserts or saucy salads? As they say, "man-up" Anyone coming to an American steakhouse for dessert or salad should come wearing a skirt... and not a kilt. Better yet, If you don't appreciate it, don't come. That'll mean more Cabernet for myself and less competition for the other skirts in the house.

JUST DON'T BOTHER.

If you were thinking of trying, don't. Fine dining menu @ fine dining prices, this restaurant is exactly what we are all complaining about - restaurants in Shanghai ripping us off with sub-standard quality of food. Everything we ordered was just passable, not delicious. Waldorf salad had too much sauce, crabcake was just so so. And the worst was their porterhouse cut. So tough and chewy at medium rare, our jaws were aching halfway through. What happened to "melt in your mouth"? And when we made a complaint, the chef explained that it's the quality of the meat. Alright, case closed.

BTW, their "chef's special" chocolate fondant cake ..... I don't understand how they could spoil this desert so badly. Too much cream? Too much sugar? How could they make this desert so hard with almost no molten chocolate in the centre?

Now I need to find a really good steakhouse with good chocolate fondant cake to wash away the awful memory of this one.

First of all I have to say the food was great! but the service was horrible! they forgot some drinks we ordered , the food took too long , they made us pay everything before it even got to out table! the waiters could speak any english ,My friend ordered a drink , they made her pay and it never came! the music was terribly boring!! just a terrible experience! Even if the food its good , the service at the strip makes it not worth it!

The lounge at the Strip is one of Shanghai's hidden gems. The Strip is not the easiest place to stumble on to (6th fl in the Ascott Hotel), but well worth the effort. The 270 degree view of People's Square is one of the best views in Shanghai. The lounge is cozy and intimate which makes for a great environment to relax with friends or hang with a date. Being an American steakhouse, the restaurant attracts a lot of expats which provides a refreshing balance of locals and foreigners for a Shanghai venue. The food is a bit on the pricey side, but it's hands down the best steak you can get in Shanghai. Be forewarned, the truffle mac & cheese and truffle fries are sinfully good and addicting! I highly recommend hitting up ladies' night on Wednesday nights...

Everyone seems to be raving about the steaks but I'm a big fan of the Petrossian menu on the 7th floor. Petrossian is a French company that sells some of the highest quality seafood products in the world (smoked salmon, caviar, etc) and the Strip certainly does them justice. The smoked salmon was amazing and the caviar dish was superb. Being China, the service could definitely be better, but the food, I think, more than makes up for the slight aggravations. PS, I'm in love with their truffle fries.

Interesting that David Lo Pan and Jack Burton have similar tastes in restaurants - I thought the only thing that you two had in common was a fondness for women with green eyes...

This is not the easiest place to find in Shagnhai at all, without sighns from the building and big billboard, thank god threre's a huge Coach store on its ground level.

One of the most amazing view from the 6th floor and also surprisingly we got lucky with a slight breeze thoughout the night.

The bar tender behaves like he owns the place, like the barman in your local pub who wants to build a relationship with you. Deserves a trip just for that.

We all had steaks (the filet mignon and the T Bone) and they were all very good. As sides, the mac n' chese were our favourites. The menu is not very imaginative: it has all the high cholesterol american favourites. I guess we came for that so it is not a problem. The wine list is huge and has quite a few affordable wines; still, we found a reasonable napa red that was both quite good and affordable.

It is sometimes hard to figure out what you will get from reading the menues, it has such a wide range of regional stuff. Still, this was a great dinner and this deserves a trip back - though I am not sure who could eat there more than once a month given the amount and nature of the food they serve.

Finally, the uniform of the staff is just out of date, feel like a late 70's movie.

The food is delectable. I've been on both the upstairs fine dining part and the downstairs casual dining area and both are delicious. The upstairs serve prime cuts of steak and the downstairs serve general american food like burgers and poached salmon. The steaks upstairs are particularly delicious and the wine selection is suitably vast. The only minor gripe that I have is that the service is a little slow. Also, the downstairs has an amazing patio that's huge compared to any other lounge. If you don't want food, go for drinks on the terrace when it gets a bit nicer out

One of the best restaurants in Shanghai. Every single dish I ordered at the Strip was simply delicious. Highlights of the dinner were the poached salmon, tuna tartare, steak tartare, french onion soup, filet mignon, truffle mac and cheese, creamed spinach, apple pie, banana souffle. I guess pretty much everything was a highlight.

Having lived in Manhattan and tried my fair share of steaks, I can say with a doubt that the Strip Steakhouse compares with the best of New York. Peter Lugar's might best them in the Porterhouse but only slightly. I was told all the steaks are flown in from the States and it shows in their tenderness. The prices are comparable to those in the New York so don't come if you're on a budget. But if you're looking to pamper yourself with some prime cuts, this is the place.

I love Steaks....when they are prine and cooked properly, there is nothing better. With a bottle of great Red and that pairing goes a long way to make for a great experience. That was my mission when I heard Roosevelt Prime guys opened the New Strip in fancy new digs in the Ascott Hotel. Well....the steaks look comparable to Roosevlet but what surprised me was the casual fare downstairs on the 6th floor...btw, that deck is massive and shoud be a huge draw when this sweltering heat subsides...I had great coctails from some barman who looked like a Ben Afleck and even sounds like him....weird but he knew his stuff and made me some real American size cocktails that tasty and suitably strong! I ordred some Fried Chicken on that Monday night and they were killer...the skin had a crispy bite and tasted of souther spices and the meat tender and juicy....only thing was that it could have been hotter in temperature. My friends ordered some tuna poke in a iced shoyu broth and it was so refreshing in this heat and tasted just right. I tasted my friend's quesodillas and they were very good and only seemed to need some tomato salsa to go with it. The Truffle and foie gras burger looked delicious as my other buddy ate it so fast I did not get a bite. The prices are reasonable for the size and quality of the food and the service was attentive as some manager guy named Neal was all over us with happy attttude. I can wait to go back and try the rest of the items as i also see Souther dry-rub pork ribs on WED nights...one of my favorites! Going back soon!

Just celebrated a friend's bday at the Strip last night and we all had an AMAZING time!

First, the view on the terrace is spectacular. Second, the Howard Lewis martini is hands down the best martini i've ever had in shanghai...super dry and extra cold...and generous pours which I think is a nice touch. I was also shocked to see that the Strip carries a few bottles of Makers 46 which only just came out 2 weeks ago in the US. It was pricey for the glass but not overly so for something that can't be had anywhere else in China. Plus it was 2-for-1 Happy Hour so I didn't mind shelling out the extra dough for the Makers.

We ordered the NY Strip,Ribeye, and filet mignon steaks...all were charred to perfection on the outside and juicy tender delicious on the inside. On the side we had the truffle mac&cheese, onion rings, and some veggies. Again, everything was just so so good. It's also worth mentioning that we ordered the BBQ ribs (Strip's Wed special) which were very good. They weren't the meatiest of ribs, but they were fall-off-the-bone tender and tasty.

The Strip serves the best steak in China, without question. But beyond that, every other item we ordered from the menu was simply delicious. The drinks were generous, the staff friendly, and the atmosphere cozy. So rare to find a place like this that really has it all. It's safe to say I've found my new Happy Hour spot.

Excellent steaks and other flavorful American dishes. Cool decor. 6th floor is more casual and 7th floor is more elegant, with private rooms. This is a very comfortable place and great to hangout for dinner or drinks.
