2011 - recent change of management and and with it gone is the safe, respectable feel of the place. New management is a collection of thuggish looking European guys who 'administer' the ground floor. As a result I fully expect the Bulldog to be a 'new' hangout for the local Henghsan hookers soon. Service has gone down hill as well. Shame.

Like eleganceislearned, I too used to go to the Bulldog for the Monday night quiz (and the fact that they serve Boddingtons (heaven)). Now, however, the quiz has moved to a rival sports bar in the area, and I can safely say I won't be frequenting it every week. Pros: Nice looking place, a little bit dark (which I like), Boddingtons and various nice bottled ales. Cons: The waitresses are rude, the food isn't so hot, and the prices are pretty flippin' high.
Tip: Walk an extra 30 seconds down the road to Malones

I love the atmosphere here and absolutely adore how quiet it is right after work. Great for catching up with friends during happy hour. I also love that they have strongbow on tap. The food is mediocre, but still decent enough with a pint. Prices aren't terrible and are pretty reasonable on nights with specials. I love their quiz nights. =)
Biggest Complaint: The service is dreadful. The servers (or kitchen, not sure) screw up food orders all the time or forget them. Sometimes, getting drinks is sometimes a pain. I've been here a more than my fair share of times, and the service is definitely a continuing thing. (I went here on my birthday and they forgot my burger. I asked 45 minutes later, and they finally put my order in. They gave me a free order of fries, thank goodness.) Another time I went and they forgot about my pizza. After reminding the server about an hour later (we thought the service was just slow), they brought us the wrong pizza. Drinks get mixed up often, too.

The only reason to go to the Bulldog is the wonderful Monday night quiz but that really is the ONLY reason. You are not even rewarded for patronage on Quiz Night. After winning drink vouchers at a Monday quiz, I was told two weeks later (when I tried to use the drink vouchers) that they had already expired and were worthless. In addition to soul-sucking greed, you will find overpriced beers (60 RMB for a pint of most draft beer,) absolutely godawful and overpriced food, and a cheesy TGI Fridays meets Thames Town vibe...and the music is horrible. Plus, someone on the phone lied to my friend and told him they had a vegetarian burger but when he arrived he was told that they did not have any veggie burgers available.

Great, homey and intimate pub perfect for a drink all year round. Food is simple and well made - yet reasonably priced. Atmosphere always makes u feel welcome and staff are bright and happy!
-
-
used to be good, foods gone downhill and the two for one has stoped now, its just an expensive british look a like pub now, djs not bad and the waitresses often get most of the order correct
-
-
i like bulldog pub, the place where i often stay, Typical British is always my favourite. suport it!

Not bad, although music can be too loud and seats a bit uncomfortable. Upstairs is scary, with its see-through floor. Went there for quiz night with lots of friends and it was enjoyable - good pub food and drinks. Sadly it's not a proper English pub, since there's no carpet on the floor, but hey - you still got Stella and fish and chips.

Ok. i am probably an idiot for not asking in advance. however, on turning up and checking the lagers on tap, i was given a choice of stella or hoegarden. under new management, i figured this is how it was. two pints of stella and the bill was Y140. punchy. being told that it was 'mai yi, song yi' helped soften the blow, yet the free one given later on was half the size. I've been to plenty of bars around town, yet couldn't help but feel i was being done here. No comment on the price in advance, no idea the 'free' one was half the size, and no signs on the taps for the other beers on offer. Granted i should have asked, but couldn't help but feeling someone was pulling a fast one.

We rocked up at 6:30pm, which meant we had the entire 3rd floor to ourselves, which was where the All-you-can-eat tacos was taking place. It also meant that the taco table was freshly laid out and completely virginal and untouched - awesome! I'd hate to think of how messy it would all get by 9pm...
Bulldog also boasts one-for-one drinks, so we happy ordered a Long Island Ice Tea and Frozen Pina Colada. When they arrived, we were surprised to be given a 'ticket' for another identical drink each. "No no, we just want the one-for-one, so just these 2 drinks", we said. After some discussion and the lady running down to check, they allowed us to just get those 2 drinks, instead of insisting we have 4. I was impressed that they accomodated us, but they definitely should warn their customers when they order that "one for one" means you MUST get an identical drink.
Minor disaster successfully averted, we ploughed into the tacos. I LOVE LOVE LOVE how absolutely fresh, crisp and delicious ALL the ingredients were. And hoo boy, they do have an impressive array. More ingredients than we have back in Australia and certainly more than what I serve up at home when we make our own tacos. The lettuce was green and fresh and crisp, the salsa was so tasty, and I loved the slices of capsicum and onion as well. Only thing missing was guacamole, a key ingredient in tacos IMHO :(
The meat though, was just superb. I'd expected subpar beef mince, but it was actually shredded chunks of beef - incredibly moist and soft and so tasty. They also had chicken chunks, which were really tender but just not as tasty as the beef, so we stuck with the beef. I appreciated the selection of crisp taco shells and soft tortilla wraps.
Quite frankly, it was outstanding.
Absolutely no complaints with the food, or the volume. It was 50元 (US$7) per person, which was reasonable. LOVED how there was no one else there when we were eating (though a crowd of people came later), so everything was perfectly clean and untouched. We left thoroughly satisfied, with silly blissful grins on our faces. This place gets a full 5 stars, hands down!

It's quite an okay place. This is the typical "bring the crowd you want to have fun with and we provide the beer. ",place. That's it and don't expect more than that.
I went there an Wednesday and it was packed on the ground floor - didn't manage to get further up due to too much fun where I was.
One thing - the Jagermeister sales girl - too bloody irritating for my liking.

woah nelly, that brit bulldog website's a tad average.
we ventured to the bulldog for some of that ol' rowdy, convivial pub atmosphere i'm used to back home. we arrived only to be faced with an emptyish and almost silent venue with three couples strategically seated in different corners of the room (and this was quite late on a friday night). so we sat down in the fourth corner completing the square and downed a couple of overpriced pints. my partner was hypnotized by the south africa v. west indies cricket game on the big screen, so i was left on my lonesome to read expat mags and stare into space. boy, was that a night to remember. plus, the food was too expensive, but from what i was later told it's not that crash hot - so i guess we didn't miss out on much. i would only recommend this place if you've got money to burn, wanna watch cricket or miss a ploughman's lunch or bangers and mash.

not that hot stuffy and pretentious bar which has the definite feel of regulars only, outsiders beware! unless of course you like that kind of thing. the fish and chips were nothing spectacular and in fact cakey and heavy, lacking the crispy batter. the english breakfast was good but i cannot see spending 90 odd kwai on eggs and sausage-no matter how good. pints were overpriced and service was less than adequate as the server left numerous beers on the bar instead of running them to the table and unfortunately brought the food out seperately, leaving the table's patrons to wait for the rest of the food before dining, which only took another ten minutes. wouldn't reccomend it beyond a try.

Hey folks, I just took on the manager's job here at Bulldog and I'm looking for some feedback on how we can improve the place. I'm looking for suggestions about what food, drinks, music and events you'd like which would improve the place. Judging by some of the previous comments I've got some work to do, but I'll do whatever I can to improve the Bulldog experience. BTW my name is Julian, so if you're in the bar feel free to ask for me, I'd be happy to sit down for a chat. Cheers and hope to see you soon!
