Located in the old mansion of the early 20th-century businessman and politician T.V. Soong, this establishment's inviting first floor bar is accented by warm red colors and tasteful wall decorations. The second floor houses a more elegant and formal dining area, while the outdoor seating is perfect for a summer night with friends.

This place has not well reputation about service ,but i never try food ,this Sunday i go there for have try,i order : Nicoise salad, roasted chicken and grilled mixed meat platter. Service at usual very rude but i will skip this issue ,dishes come one by one ,first mixed grilled platter with sausage ,lamb chop, beef tenderloin and pork belly, the sausage is passable ,lamb chop is hard and chewy, pork belly not crispy amd tasteless, beef tenderloin hard and well done ,no vegetables together make this dishes soo poor just butterish mash potatoes..chicken arrive 2 small legs on top of burn potatoes ,i can' t believe can serve food like that i never shoot any picture but i really believe is not dishes for served in home imagine in restaurant, nicoise is end of this terrible culinary experience, arrive the exactly same potatoes of chicken but this time steam and tasteless they quantity can make you feel you still eating potatoes salad instead nicoise ,few french beans and kalamata olive, tomato and quails eggs, topped with 4 very fine slice of frozen yellow tuna cooking medium well ,salad like joke and far away from true nicoise salad. Hope dont have any more such experience is waste of money and time .

I agree with nonsugar. 40 Kuai is pretty standard for big international cities. And it really depends on the restaurant and what the menu is charging as a whole.

Im sorry to call you out Colon. But i just phoned 6 expat bars. The Camel, Cottons, The Apartment,Bulldog, Malonees, Blarney Stone and they are all Rmb40 or above. Would you like me to phone another 6 or perhaps give you the numbers so you can see for yourself

Forty kuai is not the going rate in town. Xintiandi is hardly typical. It's a place frequented by rich out of towners who don't know any different, and flash businesspeople seeking to show off.
The typical price to pay for a coffee in Shanghai is 20 - 30 RMB in expat-oriented places.
Your assertion that I have an ulterior motive for singling Sasha's out is slightly odd. I'm singling it out because I find it surprising to have to pay 40 RMB for a coffee (4 British pounds, 6 US dollars, 5 euros) when my friend paid 25 for a glass of wine.

40rmb is the going rate in town. Sheesh. I have paid around 70 before in Xintiandi. I think if your complaining about Rmb40 coffee at Sasha`s then obviously you have an ulterior motive for singling them out

Forty kuai for a small cup of coffee? How on earth is that justifiable?

Nice decent words Click, I guess you would be suitable to replace Nick from tonight on, as long as you love making drinks.... YES, I was there and it happened 2 times, 2 meters in front of me. Where were you Click?
-
-
@ Eric... wtf? you were there? They replied with a reasonable post and you chip in with that sh#t...

Sachas Management should be aware of the fact how customers feel when more or less 'get involved' in disputes as they appear 2 meters in front of them.... Nick for sure will be a great guy, but this is in every way unacceptable.....Whatever 'his love of drinks and the making of them', this will never ever level his misbehaving.....shamefull....

Dear Sashas Management: Thank you for the follow up - I'm happy to see that you these matters seriously and I look forward to enjoying more great pizza and ambiance in the future.

Dear Mr Burton and The Dawg Thank you for your recent remarks regarding Sasha
s. We do take any concerns seriously and we will speak to those concerned about it. All we can say is that "Nick" is very passionate about his job as Bar Manager for Sashas and Zapatas and demands perfection from his staff which can sometimes be misconstrue as rudeness or arrogance which we can tell you straight out that he is neither. He was employed only a couple of months ago and is still adjusting to the ways and customs here in China. Needles to say he was brought over here from his native Australia specially for his love of drinks and the making of them and not to dampen your points but we have had some very favourable remarks from our customers about him and the way he controls his bar and staff and was voted Best Manager by all his staff at our Christmas Party Awards.. We are not condoning his behavior and as we said we have now told him last night in no uncertain terms be less vocal when in the bar but we do ask that you come in and have a drink on us again and you will find that in fact that he is quite a decent guy who is not only knowledgeable and always ready to make you something special but also an interesting guy with some great stories. Thanks again for your time and hope to see you soon back in Sashas -

I was there for Happy hour the other day, I've really been into Shanghai circa 1930's-40's era and I was delighted to read the menu and see the history of the place. The architecture is amazing and just for that it's worth a stop over. The crowd is a little older, the ambiance was nice but the lights were to bright. It was a pretty big expat crowd with most of the EU in attendance. The drinks were a fair 25 rmb with high level spirits like Makers Mark (awesome) a staggering 45 RMB (double rainbow of awesomeness!). There was also a great deal on pizza with two beers for only 100RMB. This is getting to be pretty standard in Shanghai but still the pizza was really good. I'm not a beer drinker per say but to paraphrase Sir Edmund Hillary - I drank it because "it was there". The only reason I can't award this place more stars is because the Manager? Head Bartender? Older Foreigner guy in charge completely lost his cool on one of his employees in the bar and started shouting at him in front of everyone. It was so rude and disrespectful to not only the employee but to me the customer. I was embarrassed and I didn't even do anything wrong. I currently work in the Nightlife scene in Shanghai for the last few years and as a professional I would never berate an employee or colleague in front of guests and customers. There is always a moment to step off the floor, away from patrons and handle the matter appropriately.
After the incident we paid our tab and left as quickly as possible. What a shame Sasha's! -
-
I thought the new head bartender was a very nice guy, extremely knowledgeable, mixed me and my group up some excellent cocktails that were not on the menu and seemed to talk to all the customers and was pleasant.
-
-
New management, again. Nothing changed though; too much Chinese staff walk around with angry unfriendly faces. Do too many instructions take away their smiles Or does the new head bartender with his unfriendly shouting attitude in front of customers makes them loose face? Hospitality starts with a smile, especially when your venue and drinks are ok...

Hands up who knew there was a fine dining restaurant on the 2nd floor of Sasha`s ??
A friends birthday led us there and I was quite surprised how quiet they keep this place. It has a French Chef (from Lyon) whose name is Sacha (I love the irony) “Sacha`s Restaurant”
Are you interested in the music and décor ?...not really huh ? It fitted well with the place and was cozy and comfortable which is pretty much all I need with a restaurant.
Starters was a mish mash of plates brought out by Sacha from their appetizer range. The caramelized duck foie gras was an instant hit, creamy with a little sugar burst. Magical. The Wasabi Salmon Filet Rmb98 in rice paper with a mint herb oil was also pretty **** tasty and could have eaten a couple more of those. The rest of the party shared Frogs legs (of which im not a fan) and nougats of Alaskan crab with avocado (alas I wasn’t quick enough to try that one). Everyone had Cream of Forest Mushroom soup topped with a white truffle oil. My favourite soup in the world now
We asked what Sacha recommended for the mains and he was pretty keen to show off his rack of lamb and his cote de boeuf. The Australian beef was cooked rare how we asked and it cut like butter. They serve 1kg and you share with 2 or 3 people and is carved table-side and served alongside is a medium sized cooking pot which holds an abundance of root vegetables that were cooked so they kept their bite. The beef was around Rmb550 but shared between two is pretty much a no brainer. The lamb I did not try but it looked great. 4 meaty chops that were impregnated with pesto nuts and served with artichoke hearts and crushed potatoes. Lamb lovers, this is Rmb180 well spent.
Desserts looked good and was assured tasted even better (Sacha`s Cheese Cake with summer fruits and homemade chocolate sauce, and Warm Coconut Cake with pina colada cream and dark chocolate pouring sauce) I went straight to the cheese. 3 cheeses. 2 soft, one hard. Auvergne,Conte and the Triple Brie served with fig compote, truffle honey and a fresh homemade warm walnut baguette.Rmb128 The other gooey ripe numbers were going to be arriving in the next few days we were told by our waitress so may check that out being a cheese lover
Service was top notch and seemed very knowledgeable especially about the cheese which seemed strange to me as Chinese don’t eat cheese really but our server explained which one was which, she also told us about the year and history of our Cote Du Boeuf and somewhere in the distance I think she recalled the Lambs name too !!
Well worth a visit and a great fine dining experience without paying fine dining prices and right in the city center too.

I have to agree with Eric_sh... What a downslide this place seems to be having, used to be the place to go, not has a feel of an empty shopping centre. I reluctantly went in recently on the way into Zapatas, granted it was CNY, but the place was DEAD, we stayed for a drink and quickly escaped. Its a far cry from how it was only a few months back. What a shame

@celticspirit: 'The drinks were strong and fairly priced and the food was just fine. With a great ambiance and staff, I will be back there for sure! Been there many time for dinner upstairs and that's been great too'.
Besides the ambiance, which is ok, although the lighting sucks, every word uphere is a damn lie; prices are too high, staff; even the filipino's have an attitude and the food, especially upstairs sucks already for ages, whatever they try with changing chefs/kitchens over the years
Did you smoke too much today ? :)
smoked too much?

I absolutely love the bar in the middle of the downstairs dining area! Who's ever idea it was to do this should have been given a big bonus! So great to be able to see other patrons sitting around the bar talking and socializing! Went there for a recent lunch with a good friend and we weren't disappointed. The drinks were strong and fairly priced and the food was just fine. With a great ambiance and staff, I will be back there for sure! Been there many time for dinner upstairs and that's been great too.

Good atmoshpere, friendley staff, drinks and food is a bit pricey though so we may just go here for special occasions.

I went here again after two years of boycott. Ordered a pizza and a beer to be safe and wow.....A pizza with proper sauce in China? I was amazed. I'll be back to try more of the updated menu!

Very disappointing! We were a group of 8 people. Started with cocktails and we decided to stay for dinner. Very expensive for what you get. Not a huge choice. They've got mixed up in the order. I received my meal 20 minutes after everyone. The staff is very poor, unqualified and definitely not enough to respond adequately to all customers. I do NOT recommend this place at all. You can find a lot of places in Shanghai where you can enjoy beer and meal for a reasonable price and still get good service. I hate restaurants when they sit on their reputation.

If the Soong daughters would have been treated the way staff treated us they would have been kicked out right away. I'm sure it's not all staff members who do not say hello, are rude, do not see you and have an attitude. Does not not look good though. Bummer. It's such a beautiful place. Oh and I wish we would not have ordered food.

Happy hour is okay, but only for two hours. The food used to be good but recently after eating their pizzas, our whole group fell ill with food poisoning. For that reason, not going ever again.

Sasha's was mentioned in CW's Drinking Al Fresco story. Read up about this venue and more to make the most out of your summer.

decent wine at a decent price during happy hour. pizza's good, too. pleasant staff.

-
expensive and over rated dont believe the hype, but its got better since Dec though, the new yank in charge seems to be doing a good job. upstairs food still dubious though

place nice and food not so bad

Second Bite | Back in Action
With new management and a reopened second floor (where Prime used to be), Sasha's was just crying out for a second look. The new menu offers a revised selection of standard Western fare: think striploin steak and fish and chips. Or order Sasha’s thin-crust pizza in the smartly decorated upstairs dining room. Waited on by attentive staff, we started with a bowl of deep-fried calamari (¥45) which was filling, even for two, yet disappointingly bland. But the 280 gram hunk of melt-in-your-mouth beef tenderloin steak (¥165), served with creamy peppercorn sauce and a generous helping of sautéed potatoes, was cooked to perfection and went well with a glass of Merlot (¥50). Our old standby, the margherita pizza (¥70), lived up to its reputation as one of the best pizzas in town with a thin, crispy crust and a good heaping of cheese. To finish, we worked on a satisfyingly sweet Eton Mess (¥50), a dessert of strawberries, meringue and cream, before sinking into a contented food coma. Perfect for soaking up the candlelit atmosphere and beautiful Asia-inspired colonial surroundings.
