This is a stylish rooftop bar above el Coctel in the same building as Rhumerie Bounty. It has a decent selection of food and a bright, airy space with a "loft-style" vibe. Good cocktails and a decent outdoor space suggest this will be a summer favorite.

Description

“Vibrant, individual, and uncompromisingly modern”

Inspired by the unique ambiance of NYC or London style lofts, The Apartment is a restaurant and lounge-bar, located on the 3rd floor of an authentic former warehouse building on No.47 Yongfu Road, in the heart of the old French Concession, Shanghai. To recreate the coziness associated with the name, throughout The Apartment there are various areas, each with individual characteristics to suit your mood and make you feel ‘at home’: If it's people action that you crave - position yourself in the main drinking area where a luxury styled Bar is comprehensively stocked with an array of draught and bottled beer, as well as spirits and wines from around the globe.

If you're out with a group of friends, then why not take over our Glass-enclosed Dining Room, with its sumptuous colors and light, velvet drapes for added privacy, and a big family dining table.

If you feel like getting "couched up" - the lounge area is the place for you. With its inviting cozy beaten leather sofas, it’s the perfect place to spend a relaxing afternoon or enjoy a few cocktails as the evening rolls in. Right next to it is The Bedroom area, with a plush bed to lounge, chill and even party on – make sure to reserve* your spot early.

Last but not least, our Roof top terrace is like a piece of Manhattan in the middle of Shanghai – view of the amazing skyline through the green tree tops and carefully selected seating create a perfect place to spend all those long summer days.

Add to all this our tasty lunch sets and dinner delicacies, made by our foreign chef and served until late, as well as jazzy live piano performances nightly, and a house DJ spinning soulful beats from 10pm - you are sure to be captured by The Apartment's effortlessly relaxing yet luxurious atmosphere. Open every day 11am-Late.

Sunday burgers are amazing! But the all-day happy is not happening. Been there 3 times now and always being charged full price for my beers - they say it's a mistake online. I thought 'oh well, so what'. But then I just saw they are promoting it again? That's false advertising.

I've been putting off writing this for a week now. Several of my friends and I booked 2 tables here for NYE. We had the down payment in over a week in advance (12/22), by request of one of the managers. Our reservation was made for 10:30 PM.

Upon arrival (at 10:30), we had to wait 45 minutes to get seated at our reserved table. There had apparently been some sort of management mix-up, and the table was occupied.

After the seating situation got worked out, we ordered a round of bottles. But, the staff only brought half the amount we ordered and neglected to bring drinks for the other half of the table. A half an hour later (now 11:45), we finally get some sodas. Every time the waitress would come over, she'd just shrug off our order and was quite rude and difficult. Finally, someone was able to find a manager and explain what was happening. She sent over a bottle of champagne on the house (at least we got to cheers for new years!)and around 11:55, the rest of our order finally came.

I'm not sure if this was over-booking or what went wrong. And, I am glad the manager was understanding and helpful, and I believe they tried to remedy the situation as much as they could. Unfortunately, I think this was one more event added to my disenchantment with the Apartment.

EXCEPTIONALLY disappointed. Reserved a table for Friday dinner, the place look pretty empty when we arrived. Was led to a not-too-comfy looking bar table with stools. We request to take the couches (seats 4). The host refused and said those are for reservation only, but we have reservation. Then he switched his answer to "o, those are for reservation but with a minimum charge of 2400 yuan". We walked out. The Apartment have lost "2400 yuan" of business that night, and gained a bad reputation for being disrespectful. Will not go there ever again.

Nice terrace and design...but.. It feels empty and soulless, the music is ok but way too loud to talk, and the food very disappointing...

I kind of liked it at first but it fastly grew old, it is by no mean a bad place; rather a place i could go to meet friends but i would never go by myself or bring friends there... Design and concept is not everything in F&B..

Puuuhh, that was a bad experience: Saturday night. I went to The Apartment with my frineds. it was very busy, had to get drink from the bar..Finaly I got 3 vodka soda and 2 tsing tao.Beer is not cold enough, and the vodka mixers taste terrible.I spoken to bartender the vodka is wrong,he didn't say anything just pour more vodka in my glass. Ive drink vodka nearly 15 years,I was conscious of someone put water in vodka bottle. I dont understand why such a nice bar sale fake drink cheating customers, will never ever come back to take a rick getting headache and sick.

This place is run by sanctmonious expletives who dont allow you to return to your table after you go to the washroom. That's worth repeating: you go from the patio to the downstairs washroom and the thick, self important, utterly useless bouncers won't let you get back to your table. Your conversation might go something like this: You cant come up. too full -- yeah, I have a table, my friends are waving at me, see -- sorry too full --- I just got back from the washroom -- No! you wait five minutes too full -- I want to speak to your manager. Five minutes arrogant, stuck up wench of manager walks over to a crowd of people waiting to get back to their friends and starts choosing people to allow back to their friends to pick up the conversation that they left ten minutes ago, while the others must wait. Nonsense. That is not service. Add to that the, gold diggers, posers, incompetent waitstaff and average drinks and it becomes clear, that despite the great location and decent design of the place, there is nothing that the apartment does well. I wont ever be back.

I was very disappointed by The apartment. First of all,the terrible service very annoy me.Me and my wife just order 1 mojito,1 vedett beer and 2 pizza and sitting on the terrace. When I took order, the waiter is like a chinese restaurant server, doesn't understand what I said.He has to ask another girl to help him. They Keep chating when they took order for me,its very very disrespect a customer for a F&B server.Secondly, the pizza is quite good but the mojito is the most terrible I have had in my life. The glassware is dirty, crushed ice was with dust and mint leaf was YELLOW!!!Its really have me upset. When we finished the pizza, we decided to leave.I try to ask the waiter to bring my bill but nobody notice me, they were talking each other.I have to go to the bar to ask for pay my bill.I asked the waiter how much my bill,he said 300RMB. I want to see my bill but he said the printer doesn't work. After I double check menu,I found vedett beer is 60,mojito is 65,2 tomato basil pizza is 170, totally must be 295RMB.But I didn't say anything just pay 300RMB.That 5RMB just for charity. Terrible service, bad drinks, staff cheating!I suggest people only can go for their pizza and never drink any cocktails there.Pay 120% attention to your bill to aviod waiter overcharge your money.

I kept hearing about this place but was disappointed when I finally went. They had some nice live music there but not really my scene. More of a place to sit and relax after work to talk about business or something. An older crowd with mostly foreigners. Not a bad place, nice environment, just not really for me if I want to go party.

There are some decent aspects to Apartment, but taken in context of the plethora of great places in this city, it does NOT reach the bar. Cocktails are poorly mixed and overpriced, even for the market. The food is unimaginative, poorly designed and equally poorly executed and the service is average.

There are far too many better places than this...

I can appreciate what Apartment is trying to do. Very nice bar setup and atmosphere. The outdoor terrace is tops. They play some excellent music, and if you can grab a table, the night is set. The drinks do come at a price, and it's tough to get around that given the other options that are available just on Yongfu Road.

Probably the most over-rated bar in Shanghai. Drinks are so-so and expensive for the location. Crowd is mostly composed of gold diggers hunting for a free drink and thinking that this joint is chic just because its from New York.. In the other hand food is good, the meat patty in their burgers is always tasty and crispy; last time I even forgot about the bread..... During night it gets too crowded , also, what's wrong with the girls , why do you dress up for this place? funny to see the chicks suffering with their heels at this joint as if they were in Shanghai's fanciest club.

I adore the roof terrace on a weekday. It's so relaxing and a great place to unwind. I'm not a big fan of the weekend late crowd. I have met more pretentious expats here than other places in the city. Some nights the music is just too loud and the place is too crowded to have a good time.

The mixed drinks here are good enough and the staff is great. And, Mmajor props for the amazing restroom. Incredibly clean!

Love the place during weekdays. Been there couple of times in the weekends and last time went there on Monday - nice drinks, good atmosphere, not crowded, loved it. I am not even a month in Shanghai yet but could say this place is one of the best lounges I can find here.

Saw the other night while leaving from their ladies night (always got a hungover on Friday!) that this place is also open in daytime and serves lunch...So, I decided to check it out with a few friends and I was nicely surprised: my salmon sandwich was yummy, and my friend had a burger that he's still talking about. Hope they keep this going because when the weather gets nicer I'll be coming much more to eat up on the terrace!! Just one thing folks - give people a whole can when they get a Coke.

note to management - you guys really need to try much harder on the food and drinks quality despite your good business - i have tried food on 3 occasions to see if you would improve but unfortunately you've been consistent in failing to do so - and please make better drinks for the margins and profits that you seem to be making on them! most places that charge less make better drinks, so i know you are capable of this - i do appreciate that you're filing a needed lounge niche in shanghai, but perhaps its time to really tie up your loose ends now that you've made it as a successful place

Went to The Apartment for the first time last Friday, and boy was it packed. I thought the hype toned down after a couple of months of its opening, and I also heard some negative feedback from friends who've been there that I didn't think it'll be as jam packed as it was.

Well, as for me, I think it's a pretty cool place. Prices are within the same range as other bars/lounges of its level. The DJ played cool and hip house music, not exactly of the lounge-type in my opinion, especially at that volume, but good nonetheless. The rooftop terrace is a nice get-away from the loud music and crowded room. If you want some chill-out time with friends, chatting and catching up, the terrace is for you, weather-permitting.

BTW, they have one of the best restrooms in Shanghai's bar scene, for those looking for some nooky with their sweetie.

We were there last night and maybe there were about 7 or 8 of us and we got up to the terrace. I had to go to the gents (we all do after a few drinks) downstairs and when I tried to go back up to meet my friends there was somehow a bouncer or door guy who refused to let me up... Saying the place is full. I explained many times that my friends are upstairs and that I just came down to go to the toilet but he simply refused... The worst was before u know it he started abusing me with the f word for no apparent reason... It was ridiculous and unbelievable... People around me was confused and seriously thought I had killed his family or something (i wished i had since at least i can say i deserved it) So I explained to him again I will just call my friend who will come down to the door and make sure his puny brain can understand what I'm saying... When my friends finally came he was ok to let us up but he demanded an apology from me... Talk about abusing the perceived authority this poorly paid, overworked, egoistical, rude, abusive and probably dropped in the head when young ar**hole....

Guess what we left the place and would never go back

It's a pretty nice bar, nothing spectacular but also nothing disappointing. The drinks are good and the bartenders are very talented. The crowd is almost all expats so don't expect to practice your Chinese here or anything. The roof was closed when I went so no judgments on that.

Saturday night here was just great, the whole room very busy. My girlfriends danced nearly all night, hipp hopp and dancey house music, dj was so good. Did not no they have the food. Drink was strong, toilet very clean. We come again

The Apartment boasts a fabulous terrace and funky decor. The martinis and champagne cocktails are strong and delicious. I also highly recommend the old fashioned. Weekends have been packed as of late, but the crowd remains smart yet casual. Where else can you find a massive, white, grand piano with a DJ spinning good beats behind it?

meh, I think the drinks are just decent, as is the space. For me it doesn't stand out among other bars in town, the draw is its newness. Isn't this just an amalgation of Fat Olive and Velvet Lounge?

I think they got pretty fancy bar deco... DJ area has white piano and carribean style drums. Customers 80% caucasion. most of them age level around 27-50...Price of drink are reasonable, around $65-80RMB per cocktail. and they have some eye-candy videos featuring the lingerie models on Wide screen LCD TV. This would be much like an drinking and chatting bar where you take few drinks before you hop over to next dancing club--such as velvet...

Wow, just wow!

Dropped in here last night, and what an atmosphere! I have never seen any bar like this in Shanghai. As well as the good looks, the service, drinks were awesome (even if it did take a bit of time to get to the busy bar). They have a Dj on a piano, yes, a piano! I certainly havent seen that before....and the music was great, again, i have never heard in Shanghai. And a roof terrace......in Yong Fu Lu! Was very busy, had to queue a little to get in, but will definately be back next week with friends.

Had a great night, thank you.
