Nicknamed “Zi Can Dao,” meaning “purple silkworm island” in Chinese, this pavilion emulates elegance. In both cultures, the color purple represents royalty and silk threads are a symbol of the connection between Japan and China. To Chinese, silkworms are a mark of immortality because eventually they are reborn into a high and noble form. Despite time-old symbolism in the structure, the technology on exhibit promises to be anything but ancient. Rumor has it intelligent robots will make their debut at the Expo.
