Hong Kong Pavilion

Composed of three levels, this pavilion seeks to display the transparency and connectivity of life in Hong Kong. The ground level highlights its global connectivity, a major feature of the tiny region. A pedestrian ramp (perhaps replicating the moving walkways of Soho) whizzes visitors up to the second stage, enclosed in floor-to-ceiling glass walls, a symbol of transparency. Here, visitors can watch what happens outside the pavilion walls without obstruction. On the top floor, an exhibition showcasing the wetlands environment reveals Hong Kong’s proximity to nature.

As a Hong Konger (Hong Kongnese??), I have to say, this was a huge let-down. I went with a group of 20 Hong Kongers - everybody was highly unimpressed and we later spent an entire dinner (and you know us; it's at least a four hour long affair) mercilessly dissecting the pavilion's inadequacies: It doesn't show off anything about Hong Kong, the message was weak (what was it again?), the top floor was lame, the hi-tech games weren't positioned well and the screens were too small...basically, don't go. A total waste of time and completely forgettable. Yawn.

Looking great from the outside, and loving Hong Kong, we decided to give it a go, the line was short. In short, this is a 4 story walk up that leaves you without an impression of Hong Kong. I think they spent all their money on the building that they didn't have a budget for the exhibit itself. The staff was a bit pretentious I might add.
